Langley House Trust is a national Christian charity specialising in providing at-risk marginalised groups, including those leaving prison, with accommodation, support and rehabilitation in a supportive Christian environment.

Reporting to the Head of Housing Management at our Maldon, Essex offices, you’ll play a key role in helping our residents and other users realize their full potential by coordinating and developing a Trust-wide programme of training, education and voluntary work placements. You will coordinate and provide resources to allow our support workers to deliver initially the City & Guilds 3071 but in the future an extensive portfolio of other externally accredited training programmes. You will also act as our Internal Verifier, monitoring quality and effectiveness. Your other tasks will range from supporting Job Clubs and preparation for employment activities, building links with providers and creating a network of social opportunities for our users to providing colleges with the information they need. At all times you’ll be expected to promote continual improvement and develop a Christ-centred culture.

We are looking for a highly organised person who has excellent administrative skills but is able and willing to travel regularly to cover all our Trust sites. You will also be someone who can motivate and lead others.

You will be capable of developing a portfolio of opportunities that all our service users can access.  These will include a range of externally accredited qualifications, voluntary work placements and employment preparation courses. You will be able to develop appropriate resources that support staff can use to assist in the local delivery of programmes such as the City and Guilds 3071. Vetting and Barring ISA

Today is ‘live day’ for the first phase of the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) administered by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

Further info on guidance from the Diocese will be posted shortly - but for now, carry on as normal!

Important things to remember:

• Continue to use the current CRB application form
• Any CRB checks that need renewing must be done before July 2010 as otherwise you will have to wait several years into the phasing
• Use Enhanced CRB checks for anyone working with children or vulnerable adults in regulated activity-see below for a definition
• POCA, POVA and List 99 are replaced by the ISA ‘Children’s List’ and ‘Vulnerable Adult’s List’
• Standard checks are no longer available for those working with children or vulnerable adults
• Your legal obligation to refer information about individuals who may pose a risk to children and vulnerable adults to the ISA

Eligibility for Enhanced CRB checks-Regulated Activity

You are able to apply for a CRB check if you work either as a paid worker or volunteer once a month, or 3 or more days in a 30 day period, or overnight in any of the following:

• Teaching, training or instruction, care or supervision of children or vulnerable adults e.g. childcare workers, sports coaches, probation officers, prison officers
• Advice or guidance for children e.g. mentors, workers on child line
• Advice, guidance or assistance for vulnerable adults e.g. advice given to patients, assistance targeted at vulnerable adults such as domiciliary care workers or volunteers helping people who are older, frail or disabled with their weekly shop
• Any form of health or social care treatment or therapy provided to a child or vulnerable adult. This will include people such as medical professionals, therapists, health care assistants in both hospitals and community settings, social workers etc
• Driving a vehicle which is being used for the specific purpose of conveying children or vulnerable adults e.g. taxi drivers used by schools or care homes and mini bus drivers. This does not include bus drivers who drive public service vehicles which may or may not pick up children or taxis hailed/hired by children independently

You are also affected if you work or volunteer in one of the following Specified Places and come into contact with children or vulnerable adults:

• Schools
• Childcare premises including nurseries
• Residential homes for children in care
• Children’s hospitals
• Children’s detention centres
• Further education institutions where children/vulnerable adults study

Who will a vulnerable adult be?

A person is a vulnerable adult if he has attained the age of 18 and:

• He is in residential accommodation
• He is in sheltered housing
• He receives domiciliary care
• He receives any form of health care
• He is detained in lawful custody
• He is by virtue of an order of a court under supervision of a probation officer
• He receives a welfare service of a prescribed description
• He requires assistance in the conduct of his own affairs
