Supervision, coaching, mentoring, 1:1, spiritual direction, peer to peer, group supervision, reflective practice, line management, reviews....all words used today in a meeting about good practice in *these things* and how we might work better together across the Diocese in supporting and encouraging it to be done well.

Generally my work seems to settle under mentoring and group supervision - and I use a Huddle model which is sourced from the Order of Mission and missional communities to grow character, competency and calling in youth workers particularly. But it is interesting how different fields of expertise use different words and mean the same thing - or use similar words but are talking about something quite removed!
From my own perspective as a supervised person, I have a preference for flexible structure - so knowing that a number of key questions will be asked but I will also be allowed to deviate from that and go on a tangent.
As a supervisor/mentor/line manager - structure is also important to make sure I don't forget anything and I also hugely appreciate it when people prepare for supervision, in whatever way works best for them. Makes it so much more helpful and supportive all round.
Be interesting to hear what works best for you? How are you supervised? What have been your best 'management' structures? Where have you seen most growth in those you 'supervise'?
Would love to hear your thoughts!
